RE: Special General Meeting | Constitution Vote

Thank you all for your patience and understanding through the first quarter of the committee year whilst the new committee landed its feet on the ground. As a committee, we have been working through many items and improvements with the hope you will start seeing results of these over the next few weeks and months.

One of our key tasks that has been under review is clubs constitution. The current constitution is not meet the requirements under the new act, dated as the original constitution from 1969, and requires lodgement with the relevant bodies. This document precluded women from being part of our team, among some other outdated notions. We are in a situation where we do not have a legitimate constitution.

After much discussion and research, we concluded the easiest way to address the issue was to engage a peak body for assistance to write a new constitution and we have been working in conjunction with Clubs WA and Golf WA to develop the new constitution that reflects the times that we live in. This document has now been agreed upon by the committee and is now ready for members to vote upon.

On Saturday 26th March 2022, we have called a Special General Meeting for a vote to bring this document into effect. We would appreciate our members taking the time to read the attached copy and attend the meeting to have your say and vote. A copy will also be posted on our notice board for easy access or request a copy from any of our committee members.

If you have any questions or comment or proposed variations, please provide these need in writing to the secretary seven (7) days prior to the meeting.

We look forward continuing to build on the legacy of the last fifty years of golf in Newman and taking the Fortescue Golf Club into the future through promoting the game of golf within the community.
